History

Ancient Period:
The area where Alanya Castle stands has a long history dating back to the Hellenistic period. It was later used by the Romans and Byzantines.

Seljuk Era (1221):
The main structure of today’s Alanya Castle was built in 1221 by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. During this period, the castle served as one of the most significant defense and trade centers on the Mediterranean.

Ottoman Era:
During the Ottoman period, the castle was used as a military and trade post. However, over time, its military importance declined. Today, it is preserved as a historical and touristic site.
